1873

William McHose (1839-1918) built this charming Victorian home in 1873 for his bride. He was founder and senior partner of the McHose and Lyon Dayton Architectural Iron Works which produced grillwork, fencing, cresting and iron building fronts. Examples of this work are quite evident on this house and throughout the district. The iron works occupied the entire block on S. Ludlow St., Bayard St. and Patterson Boulevard.

The lion head used in the Oregon Historic District Society logo is a copy of the one used on the iron gates and verandahs made by this foundry.

The archives section of the OHDS web site will continue to evolve as more information becomes available. The quality and accuracy of the information here is our top priority. If you have any comments, suggestions, corrections, or can contribute any new photographs or data, please contact us at archives@oregondistrict.org.
